Working for our organisation
As a member of the Colorectal Department you will work with a team of eight consultants and one specialist medical doctor, delivering high volumes of colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, pelvic floor disorders and proctology. You will also support lower GI endoscopy lists and participate in the emergency on‑call rota at John Radcliffe Hospital.
The post is based primarily at Churchill Hospital and John Radcliffe Hospital, but you must be willing to work at any of the Trust’s locations within Oxfordshire, including Horton General Hospital.
Main duties of the job
Surgical management of elective and emergency colorectal surgery, with a primary interest in IBD. Work collaboratively with the broader multidisciplinary team to provide excellent patient care.
Person specification
Qualifications and Training
* Full GMC registration with licence to practice
* General and Colorectal Surgery; evidence of exposure to Emergency General Surgery and experience in Inflammatory Bowel Disease
* Appropriate higher colorectal surgical qualification – e.g., MD, PhD
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT or CESR (CP) – proposed date within 6 months of interview; or CESR or European Community Rights
* Sub‑specialty interest in inflammatory bowel disease and intestinal failure
Experience
* Experience in a specialist colorectal unit
* Evidence of ability to make decisions at consultant level and manage complex clinical problems
Skills and Knowledge
* Open and laparoscopic colorectal surgery
* Independent practice of colonoscopy
* Evidence of ability to lead a clinical team at the consultant level
* Evidence of significant contribution to successful teamwork
* Good spoken and written English; highly developed communication and interpersonal skills
* Experience of formal and informal contributions to teaching and training
* Evidence of effective and sustained contribution to clinical governance, clinical risk management and clinical audit activities
* Robotic surgery training
* JAG accreditation
* Post CCT experience in the management of Inflammatory Bowel Disease
* Peer‑reviewed publications
