Overview

Ideal for a nurse seeking to broaden their experience in a specialist field, you will work within a multidisciplinary team supporting patients with complex and often life-long liver conditions. The role includes involvement in nurse-led services such as paracentesis, haemochromatosis management, FibroScan, and long-term condition monitoring. You will be responsible for coordinating and supporting patients on elective hepatobiliary and planned care pathways. Working collaboratively with the hepatology team, you will undertake delegated clinical and administrative duties and act as a key point of contact for patients and families, offering support and guidance throughout their care journey.

* Support the CNS teams in delivering safe, effective, and compassionate care to hepatology patients within the Tertiary Hepatobiliary Service.
* Assist in the coordination and management of the elective paracentesis service.
* Support the care and monitoring of patients with haemochromatosis.
* Contribute to the delivery of the FibroScan service.
* Assist in maintaining and updating patient databases.
* Act as a point of contact for liver patients, offering advice and support, and contributing to the running of the liver nurse advice line.
* Provide vital support to the Hepatology Clinical Nurse Specialist team in the delivery and coordination of care across a range of hepatology services, involving both clinical and administrative duties to support the elective hepatobiliary service.


Elective Paracentesis Service

* Provide administrative support for the service.
* Organise pre-procedure preparation for patients.
* Liaise directly with patients to coordinate appointments and provide information.
* Support the clinical management of patients undergoing paracentesis.
* Contribute to audit and service improvement initiatives.


Haemochromatosis Service

* Deliver administrative support to ensure efficient service operation.
* Maintain and manage patient databases.
* Organise referrals for venesection or other treatments as clinically indicated.
* Liaise with patients to arrange appointments and offer guidance.
* Support the haemochromatosis monitoring programme.
* Participate in service audit and quality assurance.


FibroScan Service

* Undertake FibroScan procedures following appropriate training.
* Ensure follow-up care is arranged based on scan outcomes.
* Monitor and contribute to the ongoing evaluation of the service.


Monitoring of Hepatology Patients and Databases

* Assist in the monitoring of patients with viral hepatitis (HBV and HCV).
* Support surveillance and follow-up for patients with parenchymal liver disease and those undergoing HCC surveillance.
* Contribute to the management of the Hepatology helpline, providing advice and support to patients as required.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, compassionate, and well-organised nurse with a genuine interest in hepatology and a desire to develop in a specialist setting. Qualifications

* Registered Nurse, current NMC registration
* Diploma in Nursing


Desirable criteria

* Mentorship/teaching qualification
* Post registration qualification in relevant specialty, Post registration experience and successful completion of band 5 foundation gateway competencies
* Experience within relevant clinical setting
* Evidence of maintaining a clinical learning environment
* Evidence of working with students
* Recent acute hospital experience (including as a student nurse)
* Knowledge of current nursing issues and clinical governance
* Demonstrates awareness of own limitations, ability to organise workload and delegate tasks appropriately
* Ability to work as part of a team and to support less experienced staff
* Ability to problem solve; good written and verbal communication skills
* Basic IT skills, including e-mail and word processing
* Supportive of colleagues; able to work in changing environments
* Committed to high standards of patient care; exemplary personal standards of conduct
* Maintain both personal and professional development; willingness to be flexible and adaptable

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
