Overview
Locum Consultant Plastic Surgeon with an interest in Skin, Trauma and Mohs required. The Department provides most areas of Plastic Surgery and houses supra-regional services for Cleft Lip and Palate, Burns, and Laser services. The catchment includes Wiltshire, Hampshire, Dorset, Isle of Wight and the Channel Islands. The post is based at Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust with activity between Salisbury and University Hospital Southampton NHS Trusts.
Job responsibilities
* Join a busy surgical skin service operating between Salisbury Foundation Trust and University Hospital Southampton NHS Trusts.
* Develop and run a Mohs service within the Dermatology treatment centre.
* Lead rapid referral skin cancer clinics at Salisbury Foundation Trust and contribute to clinics and operating theatre lists covering all pigmented skin cancers at Southampton hospital.
* Take part in twice-weekly MDT discussions at both hospital sites.
* Contribute to teaching, governance, and development within the department.
Essential qualifications
* Possession, or within 6 months of possession, of a CCT in General Surgery leading to entry onto the GMC Specialist Register at date of interview
* Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
Essential experience / skills
* Wide experience and high competence in Burns Surgery, with Burns Fellowship experience (essential)
* Laser experience with Fellowship or post‑CCT experience (essential)
* Major Trauma Centre experience (essential)
* EMSB (or equivalent) Course Certificate (essential)
Desirable
* EMSB Instructor (desirable but not essential)
* Trauma Micro‑fellowship (desirable but not essential)

* Clear, logical thinking and sound clinical judgement
* Evidence-based practice and up-to-date knowledge
* Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and motivate staff
* Commitment to clinical governance and learning from errors
* Excellent written and spoken communication; consider patients preferences in treatment options
* Demonstrated teaching commitment and ability to impart clinical skills to trainees
* Experience with clinical audit and involvement in NIHR CRN portfolio research; understanding of GCP in clinical research
