Are you passionate about animal welfare and scientific research? Are you dedicated to ensuring the highest standards of care for animals involved in research activities? We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Animal Technician to oversee day-to-day operations of our state‑of‑the‑art Biological Research Facility (BRF) and contribute to the promotion of animal welfare and a Culture of Care within our facility.
Responsibilities
* Animal Care: Provide excellent care, handling, and husbandry for a variety of laboratory animals (rodents, rabbits, etc.), ensuring their health, cleanliness, and welfare.
* Health Monitoring: Conduct regular health assessments and observe animals for signs of distress or illness.
* Experimental Support: Collaborate with researchers to assist in animal‑related experimental procedures, ensuring compliance with ethical guidelines and regulations.
* Record Keeping: Accurately document all aspects of animal care, procedures, and observations in accordance with SOPs and regulatory requirements.
* Facility Maintenance: Maintain cleanliness and organization of animal housing areas, workspaces, and equipment to uphold high standards of hygiene and safety.
* Prior technical experience and line management experience is essential for this role.

* Enthusiastic and flexible with a genuine interest in animal welfare and research.
* Methodical, organized, technically minded and experienced working in a laboratory environment.
* Able to work autonomously and as part of a wider team; willing to work weekends, bank holidays, and university closure days on a rota basis.
