SEN Teaching Assistant – 1:1 Support for KS2 Pupil with Complex Needs Full-Time | Mainstream Primary School | Long-Term Opportunity Are you an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant looking for a highly rewarding, specialised role? We are seeking a dedicated, resilient and skilled SEN TA to provide full-time 1:1 support for a KS2 pupil with very complex needs within a warm and inclusive mainstream primary school. This is an opportunity to make a profound impact on a child’s development, wellbeing and access to learning. About the Role You will work closely with a KS2 pupil who requires consistent, structured and personalised support throughout the school day. The child presents with multiple and layered needs, which may include: Significant communication and interaction difficulties Complex learning challenges with a highly individualised curriculum Sensory regulation needs and triggers Emotional dysregulation and behaviour that may be challenging Difficulties with transitions, attention and social understanding Your role will involve building a trusted relationship, implementing tailored strategies, and ensuring the pupil can access learning, regulate effectively, and develop independence at an appropriate pace. Key Responsibilities Daily Support & Learning Deliver 1:1 classroom support across all subjects, adapting learning tasks to meet individual needs. Implement a highly personalised learning plan, working collaboratively with the class teacher and SENCO. Facilitate multisensory activities and differentiated resources to support engagement. Support with communication methods which may include visual aids, PECs, TEACCH or other structured frameworks. Behaviour & Regulation Support emotional regulation throughout the day using consistent routines and de-escalation strategies. Implement behaviour support plans confidently and safely. Use a calm, patient and nurturing approach to help the pupil manage anxieties or challenging moments. Pastoral & Personal Care Provide discreet support with personal care where required. Create a safe, structured and predictable environment to reduce triggers and ensure wellbeing. Collaboration & Documentation Work under direction of the SENCO, external specialists, and class teacher. Monitor progress and contribute to reviews, observations, and EHCP targets. Communicate effectively with staff and, when appropriate, with parents/carers. What We’re Looking For The ideal candidate will have: Essential Experience supporting pupils with complex SEN needs (ASD, SEMH, communication difficulties or learning delays). Strong behaviour management and emotional regulation strategies. Ability to remain calm, patient and consistent, even during challenging situations. Confidence adapting learning and using visual or structured approaches. A proactive, committed and empathetic nature. Desirable Experience with EHCPs, personalised timetables, or SEN frameworks (e.g., TEACCH, PECs, Makaton). Background in psychology, social care, education or behaviour support.
