We offer APLS, EPLS, ATLS and TILS in-house, and most of our senior team are instructors for these courses. We offer a wealth of senior knowledge and experience.

Main duties of the job
* To take responsibility for managing and coordinating the department in the absence of more senior staff and to act as a positive role model and lead both junior staff and students.
* To participate in the teaching and supervision of junior staff and student nurses, helping to lead, manage them and develop their skills.
* To provide safe, effective practice, giving patients and relatives high quality nursing care.
* To be a positive role model to junior staff members.
* To provide competent clinical skills within scope of practice, being aware of personal limitations.
* To work within nursing and multidisciplinary teams to provide evidence based, holistic care to a wide group of patients.

About us
The North Middlesex University Hospital, Royal Free NHS Foundation Trust is a medium‑sized acute and community trust with 525 beds and over 600 community staff, serving more than 600,000 people in Enfield and Haringey, and surrounding areas including Barnet and Waltham Forest.
In the year ending 31 March 2022, the Trust reported a turnover of £419.7m and employed almost 4,000 staff. Following the transfer of Enfield Community Services on 1 April 2023, this increased with over 600 new staff, including in adult and childrens community services.

Job responsibilities
* To deliver a high standard of evidence‑based care to a specified group of patients.

Management
* To act as a role model at all times.

* To anticipate day‑to‑day staffing problems and take appropriate action with the team leader, sister/charge nurse and head of nursing to maintain good care standards.
* To give support and advice to junior ward staff on clinical and administrative problems.
* To ensure effective admission/discharge of patients in liaison with the flow coordinator / bed manager.
* To keep the ward sister/charge nurse informed of significant changes in the department.
* To act as a liaison within the multidisciplinary team to ensure optimum, timely patient care.
* To observe the general duty of care for health, safety and well‑being of self, colleagues, visitors, and patients in addition to specific risk management duties.

Person Specification
Education and qualifications
* Registered Nurse.
* Significant experience working on a paediatric ward/unit.
* Possession of a relevant degree or in the process of obtaining one.
* Evidence of ongoing dynamic and continuing professional development within the speciality linked to demonstrable clinical competencies and level 3 academic study.
* Assessing and mentoring qualification.
* Leadership or management training.
* PILS/APLS/EPLS/ATLS.
* Significant experience working in Paediatric A&E.
Skills and Abilities
* Cannulation/phlebotomy skills, or willingness to undertake training.
* Central venous access device competencies or willingness to achieve competences.
* Ability to plan and care for a group of patients.
* Good verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to work well within a team.
* Committed to family‑centred care.
* Able to make effective decisions autonomously and in partnership with children, families and the multidisciplinary team.

* Significant acute paediatric experience at Band 5.
* Broad experience of clinical paediatric nursing practice within a hospital environment.

* Experience of managing a ward / team.
* Experience of working within an acute and/or community paediatric team.
* Demonstrate knowledge of the application of evidence‑based practice.
