THE ROLE
An exciting opportunity to be an active member of the JLR Engines Engineering “Design and Release” team designed in the
UK for global manufacture into worldwide markets.
The role demands strong technical and commercial leadership combined with a versatile approach to changing
circumstances within programmes and an ability to be able to manage conflicting priorities between ICE & EDU
programmes in a positive and proactive manner.
Delivering on plan with clear direction, demonstrating a clear appreciation of attributes and programme deliverables on
quality, cost, weight, and function are critical aspects of a Lead Engineer.
Key accountabilities and responsibilities:
The engineer will be assigned responsibility for EDSE systems. For those components / that sub-system they will be
responsible for the following where applicable:
• Ownership of core Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), including related documents (., boundary
and interface analysis).
• Development/ management of engineering requirements / design rules/ test cases/ test procedures
• Generation of concepts, detailed design and component specifications
• Completion of Design Review by Failure Mode (DRBFM)
• Liaison with key suppliers to develop technology roadmap and support standards development and issue resolution.
• Benchmarking of new technology in literature and competitors' products through supplier presentations, teardown
activities, in-house research projects and review of publications, conference proceedings and other public domain
sources.
• Root cause analysis and resolution of issues during development/ launch / in production using 8D I Six Sigma
Methodology
KNOWLEGDE / EXPERIENCE:
Essential:
• Good technical understanding of EDS sub-system / component design and operating principles.
• Experience of managing resolution of business, technical and process issues within a Project Team environment,
including with Tier 1 suppliers.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with strong influencing, presentation and reporting skills to
support supplier and management reviews.
• Degree qualified or equivalent experience.
Desirable:
• Experience of EDSE sub-system / component design / development.
• A good working knowledge of product creation & delivery, product definition and change management processes.
