An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Womens Service at Leeds Teaching Hospitals as a Deputy Head of Midwifery and Nursing.
This role will support the existing senior management team and is integral to the smooth functioning of the Maternity and Gynaecology services in the Womens Clinical Service Unit. We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic midwifery leader with the clinical and leadership expertise to ensure the delivery of high quality, personalised care to families within our care.

Main duties of the job
1. Managerially and professionally accountable to the Head of Midwifery/Nursing, the Deputy Head of Midwifery/Nursing has responsibility for leadership and management of nursing and midwifery across the Clinical Service Unit (CSU). This includes line management responsibilities within the CSU and management of specific clinical services/areas.
2. Support the Head of Midwifery/Nursing on all issues related to midwifery/nursing within the CSU and be an integral part of the senior midwifery/nurse structure within the CSU.
3. Make decisions on practice or service delivery issues within the CSU or across specialties, and lead improvements in nursing and service delivery, aligning with organisational priorities.
4. Establish and foster effective working relationships with the CSU Management team and deputise for the Head of Midwifery/Nursing when required.

Job responsibilities
The Deputy Head of Midwifery/Nursing is responsible for leadership and management of nursing and midwifery within the CSU, including line management and specific clinical services management. They support the Head of Midwifery/Nursing and are part of the senior structure, making decisions on practice and service issues, fostering relationships, and deputising when necessary. They ensure delivery of safe, clinically effective, and compassionate care, providing assurance regarding compliance with standards. The role involves engagement with external partners, regional and national projects, and strategic service alignment.
Person Specification
Experience (Essential): Significant experience as a senior midwife/nurse, leadership experience, specialist knowledge, ongoing professional development, clinical service management, HR management, financial management, clinical governance, and professional issues expertise.
Qualifications (Essential): Current registration with NMC, relevant degree, master's, and postgraduate leadership qualification.
Other Criteria (Essential): Ability to link and ensure joined-up approaches, problem-solving, change management, complex data interpretation, and occupational health clearance.
