As a council-controlled organisation, we are currently transitioning services from Selwyn District Council. We are ahighly-committedteam working in a dynamic and agile environment, developing Selwyn Water from the ground up.Together,we’reshaping the direction of the organisation.

The Opportunity
This is a senior, strategically significant role for an experienced professional engineer who brings deep technical expertise across drinking water and wastewater systems. You’ll provide authoritative technical leadership, shape engineering standards, oversee complex design reviews, and contribute to long-term investment decisions.
Working at the heart of our new utility model, you will influence how Selwyn Water designs, manages, and optimises its networks for decades to come.
What You Will Lead
* Provide engineering authority for water infrastructure assets and system performance.
* Lead the development and application of technical standards, specifications, and engineering governance frameworks.
* Oversee complex design reviews, modelling assessments, and network optimisation activities.
* Support asset management, operations, and capital delivery functions with expert engineering guidance.
* Ensure full alignment with Taumata Arowai requirements, Local Water Done Well, and national engineering codes.
* Champion innovation, digital tools, and data-driven engineering practice.
* Mentor and uplift engineering capability across the organisation.
About You
You will thrive in this role if you bring the experience and confidence to guide engineering decisions at a utility-wide level.
You will have:
* CPEng (or equivalent) required.
* 15+ years’ experiencein water infrastructure engineering in a utility, council, or senior consulting environment.
* Deep technical expertise in hydraulic modelling, system diagnostics, and integrated network design.
* Proven ability to influence engineering decisions and provide authoritative technical advice.
* Strong understanding of New Zealand’s regulatory landscape for water services.
* Ability to build strong relationships with Iwi, councils, consultants, developers, and sector partners.
* A forward-thinking, solutions-driven mindset.
