We’re supporting a UK engineering and automation business looking for a Controls & Automation Lead to take ownership of delivering complex PLC and robotics-based automation systems across multiple concurrent projects.
This is a hands‑on technical leadership role where you’ll act as the controls authority across design, commissioning, and delivery—ensuring robust, right‑first‑time automation solutions across full project lifecycles.
What you’ll be doing
* Leading design, validation, and commissioning of PLC, HMI, robotics, safety, drives, and vision systems
* Owning controls specifications and ensuring alignment to customer and safety requirements
* Acting as technical escalation point across multiple live automation projects
* Overseeing FATs, commissioning strategy, and site validation activitiesWorking closely with project managers and engineering teams to deliver end‑to‑end solutions
* Supporting and mentoring controls engineers within the wider team
What we’re looking for
* Strong background in industrial automation / machine build environments
* Hands‑on experience with PLC/HMI systems (Siemens, Rockwell, Beckhoff)
* Exposure to robotics (ABB, Fanuc, Kawasaki) and safety systems
* Confident operating in a client‑facing, delivery‑focused role
* Experience with PackML / structured automation standards
* Regulated industry exposure (e.g. pharma, medical, aerospace)
* Vendor certifications (Siemens / Rockwell / ABB)
