The Opportunity
We offer a permanent Assistant Engineer position within our Consulting Rail Design team, based in Birmingham, Derby, York, Bristol, Manchester, and Cardiff. Projects include Northern Power House Rail, Eastern Routes Partnership, North West & Central framework, Core Valley Lines, Trans‑Pennine Route Upgrade, and Cardiff Crossrail.
Responsibilities
* Work in a team, producing technically sound engineering solutions.
* Prepare and check designs, calculations, drawings, and documentation as part of scheme deliverables to meet quality, cost, and programme criteria.
* Support effective health and safety practices within the team.
What You Will Bring
* Successful completion of a Degree Apprenticeship or an employer‑led early careers development programme, progressing toward Incorporated or Chartered status.
* Able to produce technically sound solutions with minimal supervision, moving toward supervising junior staff.
* Experience in health, safety, and welfare procedures (e.g., Amey’s Integrated Management System, CDM Regulations).
* Knowledge of technical and specification processes, taking ownership of deliverables with appropriate supervision.
* Good competence with relevant software and analytical tools.
* Basic understanding of CDM and risk assessment.
* Experience in managing and communicating hazards and risks.
* Basic understanding of project interfaces.
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an appropriate subject.
