Purpose of the Role
* Act as Team Leader to Manoeuvrers, manage all movements within the Depot in accordance with local agreements.
* To ensure that rail vehicles are received from, and delivered to, the customer safely in an efficient, punctual and economical manner.
* Ensure that any third party work done is recorded for billing purposes.
* Liaise with Control, Depot Production Managers and Maintenance Team Leaders and assist with developing contingency plans.
Role Accountabilities
* Create, maintain and enhance effective working relationships.
* Exchange of information to solve problems and participate in decision-making.
* Create and maintain the necessary safe conditions for work activity.
* Responsible for workplace housekeeping duties and the segregation of waste arising from engineering activities you have undertaken.
* Actively participate in improving processes and safe operational flexibility.
* Plan/Co-ordinate tasks with others working on the same unit / vehicle(s) or location.
* Ensure completed documentation is neat and professionally presented, (including use of IT systems where trained to do so).
* Work away from home location, dependant upon personal contract, or on a voluntary basis, when required by the business.
* Develop processes, teams, individuals and self to enhance performance, ensure that team performance is monitored and recorded and that appropriate corrective actions are taken where necessary.
* Workload Planning, monitoring, planning and control of all applicable resources, including material requests.
* Ensure materials are available by ordering material via the local process or advising the Materials team.
* Call out ‘Track Maintainer' as required to facilitate track defects.
* Ensure that trains are safely driven and shunted within prescribed limits of operation by regular operational audits and ensure corrective action is followed up as necessary.
Key Safety Responsiblities
* Comply with First Great Western Safety Standards at all times.
* Ensure your personal safety and that of others at all times.
* Report any hazards, unusual occurrences, security breaches or unsafe practices in the prescribed manner and participate in the Injury Prevention scheme.
* Carry out emergency procedures, evacuations and exercises when required.
* Ensure messages concerning safety and injury prevention are properly communicated to all concerned.
* Maintain a safe and tidy workplace and maintain environmental management processes.
* Co-operate with the Company to enable legal obligations relating to health, safety, fatigue, risk and environment are met: Example – adhering to meal break times, correct use of PPE, housekeeping, COSHH, etc.
* Report all injuries, hazards or near misses to your Team Leader or Manager and endorse at least all initial documentation required before the end of your turn of duty.
* Wear safety clothing and equipment provided, do not misuse or interfere with anything provided in the interests of health, safety or welfare. Use all equipment as per training and instructions.
* Comply with Rule Book, (including updates), Injury Prevention and other relevant local instructions.
* Have your FGW I.D Card and Injury Prevention handbook (and Personal Track Safety Certificate and Safety Critical Work Identity Card as applicable), available at all times.
* Maintain and adhere to the current TRANSEC security arrangements that are in place at the location.
* Deliver and participate in safety briefings and meetings and competency assessments as required.
* Ensure that all relevant Depot Protection systems are used correctly by your team members and contractors.
* Identified as a Manager of Safety Critical Work activities to ensure that all safety critical colleagues under your control are fit for duty and competent to undertake work in accordance with the relevant FGW Safety Standards.
* Ensure that you and your team has and uses the correct PPE and uses all safety equipment provided and undertake annual PPE check as per local arrangements.
This role is for persons who are either competent drivers or Manos who have at least 3 years of Mano experience.
