Youth Worker 2 (Position is in Australia)
Full-Time Position
Visa Options: Subclass 417 Working Holiday Visa or Subclass 482 Skills in Demand Visa
Annual Salary: AUD $95,380
Reports To: Case Manager
Locations Available: Bunbury, Cairns, Peel, Toowoomba, Townsville
Working Hours & Shift Patterns
This is a shift-based role within a residential care setting, designed to support the needs of young people (YP).
Average weekly hours: 38 paid shift hours plus two sleepovers per week, averaged over a 12-week period
Overtime: Managed via an hours bank system, which can be paid out or taken as time in lieu, depending on operational needs
Typical shifts:
Predominantly 24-hour shifts, consisting of:
16 active working hours
8-hour sleepover
Rostering pattern:
Standard rosters average 5 x 24-hour shifts per fortnight
Averaged over an 84-day (12-week) period
Some shifts may be designated as support shifts, depending on the needs of the young person
Model of Care
The model of care at Safe Places for Children in Australia varies based on the individual needs of young people and departmental requirements. This may include:
1:1 support (lone working)
1 staff member to 2 young people
Other ratios based on assessed risk and care requirements
All support is delivered in accordance with organisational policies and the Integrated Practice Framework.
Essential Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
Minimum of 2 years experience (within the last 5 years) working with children and young people who display extreme challenging and pain-based behaviours, such as: Verbal aggression; Physical aggression Self-injury within a residential, health or social care setting
Experience working one-to-one with young people displaying complex behaviours (residential experience preferred)
Qualifications: A relevant degree is desirable or a minimum requirement: Level 4 Diploma (or equivalent) in a related discipline
Ability to work shift patterns, including sleepovers, based on the needs of the service
Hold a full UK or Republic of Ireland driving licence for a minimum of 12 months
Able to obtain: International police clearance; Relevant state police and statutory checks for the Australian state of employment
Eligible to obtain one of the following visas: Subclass 482 Skills in Demand (SID) Visa or Subclass 417 Working Holiday Visa
Must meet Australian Government eligibility requirements for sponsorship and potential Permanent Residency (PR). PR criteria are set by the Australian Department of Home Affairs and are subject to change.
