An opportunity has arisen to join our Roads (Roadworks & Strategy) team.
We are seeking a motivated and technically capable Engineering Technical Officer to join this dynamic service area, supporting the delivery of the Roads function with a specific focus on the construction stage of new development roads.
You will play a vital role in ensuring that development roads are constructed safely, efficiently and in full compliance with statutory requirements, approved designs and technical standards. Your work will directly contribute to protecting the integrity, safety and long‑term performance of the public road network and associated infrastructure.
In this varied and hands‑on role, you will work closely with developers, utility companies, internal services and external agencies to resolve technical matters. Your responsibilities will include:
1. Undertaking desk‑based technical assessments and conducting site inspections;
2. Monitoring construction activities to ensure civil engineering works comply with relevant legislation, standards and approvals;
3. Providing professional advice and constructive solutions to support successful project delivery;
You will hold an HNC (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline and bring strong knowledge and practical experience of road maintenance and civil engineering works. Experience of working collaboratively with contractors and a wide range of stakeholders, both internal and external, will be a key advantage.

With strong organisational and IT skills, you will confidently use Microsoft Office applications and communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing. You will be able to analyse technical information and explain it clearly to customers, contractors and stakeholders.
You must hold a current UK driving licence to apply for this role.
Work pattern:
35 hours per week - 35 hours - Monday - Thursday: 08:45 - 16:45 (including a 55 minute unpaid break); Friday: 08:45 - 16:15 (including a 50 minute unpaid break)
