About the Role
We’re looking for a dedicated Careers Information Advice and Guidance Advisor to join our team – a crucial role in supporting individuals inside a custodial setting by providing tailored career advice, guidance and support. This role aims to empower prisoners to identify their career aspirations, develop their skills and leverages their strengths to prepare for successful reintegration into society upon release.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Caseload management: Conduct one‑to‑one assessments to identify prisoners’ skills, career aspirations and training needs, develop a Prisoner Learning Plan (PLP) and effectively manage your caseload to achieve sustained employment, training, education and completion of prison employment outcomes.
* Facilitation: Delivery of engaging sessions to groups of participants around topics such as employability skills, career planning and effective disclosure. Ensure that goals are realistic and take into account any barriers to employment sectors due to the nature of certain types of convictions.
* Relationship building: Foster genuine, trusting, and non‑judgemental relationships with participants creating a safe space for personal growth.
* Stakeholder management: Engage with prison education departments, training providers, employers and probation services to create employment pathways.
* Quality recording: Work towards agreed KPIs, targets and ensure quality assurance standards in accordance with the service provider are met.
What We’re Looking For
* Experience delivering guidance, support or advisory services to individuals.
* Ability to assess individual needs and develop action plans to support progression.
* Experience of managing a caseload and working towards agreed targets or outcomes.
* Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage, motivate and influence a diverse range of individuals.
* Experience of working with individuals facing barriers to employment or education.
* Good organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage competing demands.
* Hold a Level 3 or Level 4 Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) qualification, or be willing to work towards this.
Eligibility Requirements
This role requires an enhanced DBS check and HMPPS EL1 vetting. Due to the time required to complete these checks, successful candidates will be offered a start date at least six weeks from the point of job offer.
