About the role
We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, motivated, and creative picture editor to join our agency team.
In brief, the role is to support the editorial, production and design teams in sourcing images, producing shoots and procuring clearances and managing image budgets across all projects. This includes magazines, annual reviews, books, proposals and digital/social media campaigns.
High levels of organisation, creativity, attention to detail and a passion for culture and publishing are essential.
Responsibilities include:
* Coordinate with the editorial, production and design teams and client representatives to identify photography needs and source appropriate images for the subject matter
* Clear and negotiate rights for the reproduction of images
* Conduct effective searches at commercial photo libraries, private or state collections, museums and archives
* Assign projects to photographers and manage briefs, deadlines and budgets
* Review photos, edit and make necessary changes and decide which images to publish
* Ensure all assignments are shot and edited on time for publication
* Where necessary, manage and produce shoots to ensure deliverables are all met
* Manipulate photos to achieve highest quality using the appropriate tools
* Stay up to date with new image editing technologies
* Manage the filing and archiving of images to ensure easy and efficient retrieval for future use
Experience and Essential skills:
* 5+ years experience minimum
* Sound knowledge of picture sources around the world.
* Ability to quickly locate appropriate images.
* A keen interest in culture and the arts.
* Expertise with graphics software.
* Ability to work calmly, methodically and quickly under deadline pressure.
* Ability to communicate effectively with editors and others on changing needs.
* Tenacious and determined when solving problems.
* A firm understanding of copyright and media law as it relates to photo use.
* A good eye for design and detail.
* Diplomacy in dealing with a wide variety of individuals.
