What we do
We provide essential water and wastewater services to the Yorkshire region. We aim to ensure that over 5.4 million people living in the region and visitors have clean and safe drinking water and wastewater services 24/7, 365 days a year, contributing to health, wellbeing and prosperity.
New environmental legislation and changing customer expectations make this an exciting time to explore opportunities within the water industry. Water Production is a key part of how we plan to meet these needs. It is an operational role rather than a design or supervisory Process Engineer role.
Where you fit in
As our Process Engineer you will:
* Be based at a Water Treatment Works, performing operational and plant maintenance activities to provide wholesome water. Tasks include proactive planned work baskets such as cleaning and calibrating instrumentation, completing Water Quality laboratory checks, fault finding and diagnosis of treatment issues, trend data integration, cleaning process tanks, coordinating with electrical and mechanical colleagues to resolve faults, accepting chemical deliveries, and ensuring compliance with water quality standards, environmental regulations, health and safety, and process safety across all WTWs.
* Lead chemical and process optimisation of clean water treatment processes to achieve the production plan and manage costs. Lead optimisation activities, share best practice, and minimise service outages. Manage asset failure and operational recovery from the field, and support cost information monitoring.
* Review Risk Assessments and Methods Statements, issue control of work documentation, adhere to safe systems of work, identify hazards and implement mitigation, and update reporting systems to ensure HSE compliance across the WTW in line with DWI and Environment Agency requirements.
* Play a vital role in completing operational actions on site and provide support during incidents or operational events, ensuring escalation and appropriate management.
* Support Modernisation initiatives and asset maintenance, and contribute to the new operational asset management system (ERP).
What skills & qualifications you will need
* Multiskilled with a hands-on practical approach. Water Treatment understanding is desirable but not essential. Willingness to learn with awareness of regulatory Health, Safety and Environmental obligations. Analytical, with fault-finding ability and data trend analysis.
* Rigorous attention to detail, right-first-time performance, proficiency in IT systems, and knowledge of risk policies. Open to new technologies and ways of working in a fast-paced environment.
* Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders across the business.
* Experience in a commercial/regulatory environment and in the water/wastewater sectors or related utilities, process, or manufacturing sectors is desirable.
* Role requires working in confined spaces; candidates must pass medical criteria including BMI, vision, blood pressure, hearing, and Spirometry tests. If needed, contact us to discuss tests before applying.
* Travel to different operational sites is required; a full UK driving licence is essential with no more than 6 points. Flexibility to respond to out-of-hours incidents on a rota basis.
Although we operate 24/7, we support flexible working patterns and job share options where possible to help work-life balance.
