Infrastructure Services Senior Analyst
West Midlands Police are looking for an experienced Senior Analyst to support our Infrastructure Services team. The role focuses on the security, capability, availability and performance of the Force’s database and infrastructure environments. The incumbent will report directly to the Infrastructure Services Team Manager and will work independently to deliver value across the department.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide specialist technical skills and knowledge that facilitate the security, integrity, availability and performance of the Force’s Database Infrastructure.
* Analyse and recommend best practice steps to prevent potential database issues such as performance degradation or loss of service, and suggest remedies when problems do occur (outages or errors).
* Provide input into complex decisions regarding data architecture, infrastructure and administration.
* Analyse and recommend upgrades to database software and components based on security requirements, new technology or evolving application demands.
* Review database environments to ensure they meet security controls and audit requirements.
* Support management on enterprise‑wide and departmental goals and objectives.
* Provide operational support to all WMP database platforms across the enterprise.
* Work on multiple projects as a team member or, at times, as a technical lead.
* Support multiple databases of medium to high complexity, ensuring control, integrity and accessibility of the data.
* Assist with departmental roadmaps, product goals and development strategies.
* Create and modify maintenance plans, perform tuning, and advise developers on schema improvements.
* Provide and disseminate specialist/technical advice on incidents, configuration, availability, capacity, continuity and release management in line with ITIL.
* Interpret statistical data and advise management on trends.
* Assist with negotiating supply contracts and revising procedures and policies for approval and successful implementation.
* Maintain a good working environment for all team members.
* Monitor health and safety issues and raise concerns where appropriate.
* Ensure adequate checks and controls are in place to protect live operational environments.
Essential Skills
* Manage and support a variety of infrastructure technologies.
* Demonstrate experience in Azure SQL and Azure Arc.
* Delegate work to others and develop the knowledge and skills of team members.
* Enterprise database management experience – both proactive and reactive.
* Experience with data storage services, servers, backups and data centre management.
* Direct communication with senior managers from a customer‑service perspective (written and oral).
* Participate in and chair meetings.
* Promote equality, diversity and human rights in working practices.
* Maintain information security standards.
* Comprehensive database and backup technology skills on premises and in the cloud.
* Excellent interpersonal, presentation and organisational skills.
* Flexibility to use a range of supporting technologies and to be innovative.

* Understand customer/user needs and communicate effectively throughout the organisation and with external suppliers.
* Knowledge of ITIL processes as they apply to the team and department.
* Produce management reports, policy documents and working papers, including recommendations and implementation plans.
* Lead or chair local, regional and national conferences.
Desirable Skills
* Extensive knowledge of infrastructure database technology.
* Knowledge of capacity and lifecycle management.
* Backup technology knowledge.
* Cloud technologies – Azure Stack, subscriptions, scale sets, virtual machines, storage, Sentinel, and backups.
* Understanding of the ITIL framework.
* Health and safety knowledge relevant to the post.
* Knowledge of internal financial processes.

Vetting
