Job overview

We are looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic Registered Nurse to join our Outpatient Cataract Service. The post holder will play a key role in delivering high - quality, evidence-based nursing care to patients attending the catarac clinic, supporting them throughout their outpatient journey.

The Western Eye Hospital, is managed by Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in the heart of Paddington providing a comprehensive range of general and specialist ophthalmic facilities and is equipped with some of the most advanced diagnostic and technical equipment currently available.

You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide safe and effective care including their pre-operative assessment. The role also involves contributing to the efficient running of the clinic while maintaining excellent standards of infection prevention, clinical governance and patient experience.

To join us in providing our patients with the best possible experience and care, you must have good written and verbal communication skills and be able to work as part of a team.

Ophthalmic experience is desirable but not essential, as full training and support will be provided.

Main duties of the job

1. To provide high quality, effective, specialised and individualised care to all patients
2. To assess care needs and develop, implement and evaluate them without supervision
3. To ensure, at all times, that the needs of the patient are placed at the centre of care delivery
4. To be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and provide cover for any area as requested within the Trust.

Essential criteria

5. NMC registered Nurse

Desirable criteria

6. Ophthalmic course/module
7. Evidence of continuing professional Practice

Experience

8. Ophthalmic nursing experience
9. Ophthalmic imaging experience

Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities

Essential criteria

10. Ability to practice within the scope of the NMC Code of professional Conduct
11. Basic IT Skills
12. Awareness of Audit and research
13. Analytical skills
14. Ability to carry out various diagnostic /investigative tests

Desirable criteria

15. Have an interest in professional development
16. Basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the eye
17. Ability to teach students
18. Knowledge of use of ophthalmological investigative tools
