Senior Technician in Population Genomics

We are seeking to appoint a Senior Technician to work within the School of Biosciences. The position is available for an externally funded project on coastal otters in Wales, using whole genome sequencing and population genomics analysis. The technician will work for the Cardiff University Otter Project, hosted in the Cardiff Molecular Ecology and Conservation laboratory.
The role will entail GPS mapping of data from the Cardiff University Otter Project, DNA extraction and quality control, followed by bioinformatic analysis of Illumina data, population genomic and phylogenomic analysis and assistance in preparation of a final project report, including preparation of figures and plotting using GPS tools. Further support in daily laboratory tasks and support of other ongoing research and student projects will be expected. Regular meetings and reporting via email to the PI, and interactions with the wider Molecular Ecology and Otter Project research groups are also expected.

This post is full-time (35 hours per week), fixed term for four and a half months, and is available immediately.
The majority of roles at Cardiff University are currently operating under “blended working” arrangements, with staff having the flexibility to work partly from home and partly from the University campus depending on specific business requirements. Discussions around these arrangements can take place after the successful candidate has been appointed.

Salary: £27,644 - £30,805 per annum (Grade 4). Please be aware that appointments to roles at Cardiff University are usually made at bottom of scale unless in exceptional circumstances.
