JOB ROLE: Mechanical Design EngineerSALARY: Competitive Salary + BonusLOCATION: OxfordshireI’m currently working for a leading manufacturer based in Oxfordshire who are looking for a highly capable and hands-on Mechanical Design Engineer to join their engineering team. This role is central to the development of innovative, multi-disciplinary products, particularly those combining mechanical and electrical systems with advanced moulded materials. You’ll contribute to new product development, prototype testing, and ongoing support of production activities, playing a key role in delivering high-quality engineered solutions.Key Responsibilities
* Lead and support the design of complex assemblies involving mechanical, electrical components.
* Contribute to new product development initiatives from concept through to pre-production.
* Collaborate with production, procurement, and sales teams to provide technical guidance and ensure design intent is maintained through manufacturing.
* Engage directly with suppliers to address technical challenges and ensure component compatibility and quality.
* Produce, review, and maintain detailed engineering documentation including 3D CAD models, assembly drawings, and BOMs.
* Assist with prototype builds, hands-on testing and iterative design improvements.
* Participate in design reviews and provide input on materials, fabrication methods, and assembly techniques.
* Help shape strategic decisions related to design and development direction.
Required Qualifications & Experience
* Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
* Minimum 5 years of experience in a mechanical design engineering role.
* Background in Automotive or Aerospace manufacturing
* Proficient in 3D CAD with expertise in creating component and assembly models and detailed technical drawings.
* Experience with a variety of materials and manufacturing techniques—particularly steel, aluminium, plastics, and composite mouldings.
