Job description
Our client, a leading player in the automotive sector, is currently seeking a Senior Product Inspection Engineer to join their team in Gillingham, UK.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Carry out dimensional and surface measurement according to design specifications using microscope, hand gauges, contact and optical measurement systems
2. Produce detailed inspection reports and communicate technical information effectively with key stakeholders
3. Lead inspection method, measurement process development, and continuous quality improvement
4. Engage in innovation and lean process development
5. Collaborate with colleagues, customers, and suppliers, and research new technologies to improve department capability to meet product development and programme needs
6. Supervise junior engineers and students
7. Ensure equipment calibration and maintenance
8. Ensure EH&S and Quality Management System conformance (IATF 16949)
9. Support department targets, budget, performance metrics, and quality standards
Job Requirements:
10. Degree in an appropriate engineering discipline with significant experience
11. Master's degree in metrology or precision engineering discipline
12. NPL Dimensional Measurement Certificate - Level 1 & 2 beneficial
13. Proven experience in the automotive sector and precision engineering
14. Solid fundamental knowledge of dimensional metrology principles and best practices
15. Experience with surface finish measurement and using manual and digital microscopes, contact and optical 3D metrology equipment
16. Proficiency in data-driven decision making, including design for inspection and statistical analysis
17. Applied knowledge of traceability, measurement uncertainty, gauge R&R, and Measurement System Analysis (MSA)
18. Experience with writing measurement programmes and process automation
19. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
20. Self-starter attitude, strong problem-solving skills, and ability to work under pressure
21. Good understanding of 5S and workplace organisation
