Job Description: Electrical Engineer (Substations)
We are seeking a qualified Electrical Engineer with experience in P&C design of substations in the UK. The ideal candidate will have:
* HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualifications and experience.
* Proven extensive experience in P&C design of substations in the UK.
* Good knowledge of electrical codes and standards.
* AutoCAD capability.
* Full UK Driving Licence.
* A track record of managing design work independently.
Principal Duties and Accountabilities
* Knowledge of distribution/transmission HV design process and related project experience.
* Extensive experience in P&C FEED or detailed design of high voltage installations up to 132kV.
* Designing HV infrastructure across the full project lifecycle from feasibility to detailed design.
* Ability to work flexibly across multiple projects simultaneously.
General Duties
* Preparing and executing detailed design works, including protection and control aspects, such as SLD, KLD, MCP, relay list, GA, and BOM for protection panels.
* Checking supplier drawings and data sheets, ensuring interface compatibility with customer and DNOs.
* Developing functional specifications, setting reports, and conducting coordination and discrimination studies.
* Performing SCS, cable sizing, voltage drop calculations, and load calculations for LVAC and LVDC systems.
* Creating technical specifications for P&C equipment, sizing batteries and UPS systems, and reviewing vendor drawings.
* Carrying out CDAE for P&C discipline.
* Attending and chairing design review meetings with clients and hazard reviews, as well as reviewing P&C design packages.
* Participating in site visits, FAT, and SAT as required.
Technical Aspects of Project Development/Pre-construction
* Developing specifications with technology specialists and external partners.
* Ensuring design assurance during tender evaluation and supplier meetings.
* Conducting manufacturing assurance audits and attending FATs.
* Providing commissioning support and fault resolution.
* Verifying testing of electrical equipment through SAT and FAT reports.
