Description
We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic specialist in Journalism to join our vibrant Journalism and Publishing team on a fixed term contract for one year.
The post should particularly appeal to those with a background as a professional journalist and recent experience of university-level teaching in journalism, and expertise in political and/or international journalism would be a bonus. You will help us design and deliver content across a range of modules, including collaborative activities across disciplines, take an active role in curriculum planning and development within the subject, School and University, and engage in research and scholarly activity.
This is a part time, 1 year fixed term contract at 0.8 FTE
About the Role
* Design teaching material and deliver either across a range of modules or within a subject area.
* To support students in their learning and development throughout their period of study.
* To contribute to pedagogical innovation, curricular development and planning within the department in support of the institution's learning and teaching strategy.
* To engage in relevant research and scholarly activity in support of the university's research strategy, to inform and enhance curriculum design and to improve student experience.
* To seek external funding for this activity and help develop ideas for new revenue streams.
* To participate in and contribute to internal/external networks, engage with the subject community and build productive relationships with industrial bodies, professional associations, employers and practitioners as appropriate.
* To ensure that responsibilities identified within internal processes, QAA codes of practice, HEFCE guidelines, etc. are robustly met.
* To undertake administrative duties associated with the normal planning and operational procedures of the department and school.
* To undertake recruitment, publicity and promotional activities in the interests of the department, school and university.
* To contribute to the range of other professional responsibilities shared by tutors within the department.
* To carry out any other duties commensurate with the grade and scope of the post.
About You
Essential
* A good first degree in a relevant discipline
* Recent, successful experience of university level teaching in this subject area
* A background as a professional journalist or in a related field
Desirable
* A higher and/or research degree in a relevant discipline
* Academic expertise or professional background in political and/or international journalism
* Experience of contributing to a validated undergraduate programme in Journalism
* A track record in research and/or scholarship - particularly where this has clearly enriched your teaching, underpinned curricular developments and/or enhanced the student experience
* Fellowship of the HEA

Salary Grade Ac3S/Ac3A - GBP 35,302, rising to GBP 44,694 per annum, pro rata GBP 44,128 - GBP 55,755The salary range shows the potential maximum pay progression in addition to any annual inflationary increase to your pay. Please note that our default position is to appoint into the lower end of the range, unless there are exceptional circumstances.This is a part time, 1 year fixed term contract at 0.8 FTE
