The Intention to Study Meeting (ISM) is a critical component of our admissions process for applicants who fall outside standard entry routes. These include applicants entering through non-traditional backgrounds, borderline academic cases, or those applying to programmes or levels of study that require additional academic assessment. ISMs provide a vital opportunity for applicants to demonstrate their readiness and commitment to stud
y.
The ISM’s will evaluate applicants’ academic intentions by exploring their motivation, learning strategies, and long term academic and career goals in relation to the chosen program
me.
Main duties and responsibil
* itiesConduct online ISMs for applicants to programmes within the School of Bus
* inessEvaluate applicants' academic and/or professional backgrounds, subject knowledge, and preparedness for higher-level s
* tudy.Evaluate applicants’ academic intentions by exploring their motivation, learning strategies, and long-term academic and career goals in relation to the chosen progr
* amme.Assess applicants’ awareness of the programme, industry expectations, and relevant career path
* ways.Observe and comment on English language ability, referring to the English assessment team if neces
* sary.Use sound academic judgment to determine applicant suitability, and make evidence-based recommendat
* ions.Complete the required forms thoroughly and promptly following each inter
* view.Adhere to ISM procedures: ID verification, camera-on policy, consent to record, professional tone, and structured interview deli
* very.Communicate student support needs identified during the ISM to relevant teams and contribute to applicant follow-up where appropr
* iate.Support the Head of Admissions in facilitating training sessions and initiatives aimed at improving the delivery and consistency of ISMs across academic t
* eams.Contribute to the management and quality assurance of other ISM Tutors by monitoring interview standards, ensuring consistency in delivery, and supporting a standardised, fair approach across the
* team.Liaise and work closely with the Dean and Programme Leader
* s to:Ensure assessment criteria remain current, fair, and aligned with academic stan
* dardsConfirm that students selected for the programme have the academic potential to complete their studies success
* fullyProvide input on applicant trends and feedback for curriculum develo
* pmentAttend regular meetings with the Dean and programme teams to review ISM outcomes and support admissions plan
* ning.Participate in training, team briefings, and refresher sessions as requ
* ired.Maintain regular communication with the Admissions and Recrui
* tmentDuring quieter periods, contribute to ongoing development work, inclu
* ding:- Reviewing and updating assessment criteria in collaboration with the Dean and programme le
* adersSupporting the creation of reports and reflective summaries to inform practice improvement on applicant trends, ISM outcomes, and process improvem
* ents.Assisting with preparation for programme reviews or internal quality a
* uditsWhere appropriate, support cross-departmental activities such as assessment or student engagement initiatives, which may include occasional tasks outside the core scope of
* ISMsSupport the College’s commitment to widening participation by ensuring equitable, sensitive, and inclusive assessment of applicants from diverse backgro
* litiesEnsure all ISMs are conducted to a high professional standard, upholding institutional policies and v
* alues.Provide detailed, subject-specific feedback to support admissions decision-m
* aking.Record and report academic and support needs to ensure early intervention and retention pla
