Director External Manufacturing

Position Overview:

The role of the External Manufacturing Director is responsible for leading and managing external manufacturing operations across multiple global external partners. This role integrates strategic leadership, engineering excellence, and operational oversight to ensure compliance, efficiency, and innovation in external manufacturing partnerships.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Provide strategic leadership and oversight for external manufacturing operations, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives.
2. Lead cross-functional teams including procurement, engineering, validation, supply chain, quality, EHS, and finance.
3. Partnering closely with procurement to drive comprehensive supplier management including supplier selection & qualification, contract negotiation and management, performance monitoring & relationship management, quality assurance & compliance oversight, risk management and business continuity, technology transfer & operational support, and cost management & value optimization. While procurement administers the methodology for all SRM, the External Manufacturing leader drives the methodology across global external partners.
4. Support validation protocols (FAT/SAT/IQ/OQ/PQ) and ensure compliance with GMP, FDA, and EHS standards.
5. Manage capital strategy, project execution, and continuous improvement initiatives
6. Ensure full P&L accountability for virtual site operations.
7. Foster a culture of excellence, safety, and employee development across external partners.
8. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align external manufacturing strategy with global operations.

Skills & Experience:

9. Proven experience in plant operations, engineering, and external manufacturing leadership.
10. Strong knowledge of automation, validation, and MES technologies.
11. Demonstrated success in managing cross-functional teams and complex projects
12. Experience with SRM – supplier relationship management.
13. Expertise in regulatory compliance, quality systems, and continuous improvement methodologies.
14. Excellent communication, leadership, and strategic planning skills.

Qualifications/Education:

15. Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, operations management, or related field.

This is a remote role. This position will require travel between 30-50% of the time. This role can be based in the UK, US, Slovakia.
