An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Equality & Human Rights Team, within the Patient Experience Department, to undertake BSL interpretation work for patients and staff. The role also involves supporting NHS Fife with accessibility for Deaf BSL users and their families, including the development of BSL communication videos.
You will need to manage a busy workload, work to tight deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities. The role requires excellent communication skills, BSL public sector interpreting skills, and effective diary management. A strong understanding of confidentiality, liaising at all levels, and strong administrative, customer service, and organisational skills are essential. You must also be willing to travel across Fife.
In return, you will work alongside a knowledgeable team and staff across NHS Fife to ensure compliance with the Equality Act 2010 and the BSL Act Scotland (2015). This work supports NHS Fife in meeting the Fife BSL local plan and promoting equality across NHS Fife.
Note: Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025, this post may require a different level of criminal records check. If classified as a "regulated role," appointment will be subject to joining the PVG Scheme. Any changes to requirements will be confirmed by the Hiring Manager or Recruitment Team. For more information, visit: Disclosure Scotland Changes.
For informal enquiries, contact Mrs. Isla Bumba, Equality & Human Rights Lead Officer, at 01592 729130.
NHS Fife is committed to equality, diversity, and eliminating discrimination. We welcome applications from all sections of society and support disabled candidates, those with long-term conditions, or who are neurodivergent, through reasonable adjustments.
From 1 April 2024, NHS Scotland is reducing the full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours without pay change. This change will be reflected in the contract, but some temporary adjustments may be needed until new rosters are implemented. For questions, contact the Recruiting Board.
