As a Catering Assistant, you will help deliver meals and beverages to patients, staff and visitors while maintaining exceptional standards of hygiene, food safety and presentation. You’ll ensure meals are served correctly according to dietary requirements, support patients with tray setup, and work closely with the catering and facilities teams to keep all food service areas clean, stocked and well‑organised. This is a hands‑on role where every interaction contributes to the patient experience. Your attention to detail and positive attitude will help maintain the hospital’s high standards of service and care. Key Responsibilities Meal Service: Load and operate meal trolleys; deliver meals to wards and patient rooms; ensure correct patient meals are delivered according to dietary charts, menus and special requests. Patient Interaction: Serve meals courteously, assist patients with tray setup where required, and report any patient feedback or concerns to the catering supervisor. Cleanliness: Maintain kitchen, servery and dining areas to hospital hygiene standards; wash up by hand or dishwasher; clean equipment and work surfaces after use. Stock and Storage: Receive and check deliveries; store food correctly with clear labelling and rotation (FIFO); report low stock to the Head Chef or Head of Facilities. Equipment Use: Operate basic kitchen equipment safely (dishwasher, slicer, trolleys, kettles) following manufacturer and hospital guidance. Documentation: Complete food temperature logs, cleaning checklists and portion records as required by the department. Key Skills / Qualifications: Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate Previous Experience as a Catering Assistant A team‑focused attitude with strong communication and customer service skills. Reliability, professionalism and the ability to follow procedures with precision. A commitment to maintaining high standards of safety, cleanliness and presentation.
