CYP Assistant Psychologist

We are looking for a highly motivated and passionate Assistant Psychologist to support and enhance the Complex Care Pathway services for young people 0‑18 within Wirral CYPMHS. The position is full time until July 2027, offering supervision with a clinical psychologist, data gathering, and face‑to‑face work with families and young people.
Job Responsibilities
The postholder will be involved in work alongside other practitioners within the Wirral 0‑18 team, especially in the area of complex care. Working with young people presenting with high‑risk and complex presentations, the candidate will work independently according to a plan agreed with the pathway clinical lead and clinical psychologist, collaborating with other practitioners. Responsibilities include clinically related administration, conducting audits and outcome measures, collecting statistics, and developing audit and/or research projects, teaching, and project work.
Qualifications
* Good honours degree in Psychology (2:1 or above). Eligibility for Graduate Membership of BPS.
* Agree to undertake breakaway training or equivalent following appointment.
* Advanced keyboard skills.
* Other related academic qualifications up to Masters or Doctorate level.
Knowledge and Expertise
* Ability to communicate complex or sensitive information where barriers to understanding exist, including empathy and reassurance.
* Ability to make judgements involving a range of facts or situations requiring analysis or comparison of options, and skills for assessing children/young people in one‑to‑one sessions, group dynamics or research participation.
* Ability to organise and plan straightforward tasks, activities or programmes, and to prioritise own workload, including research programme activities and group sessions.
* Working to Professional Guidelines and capable of receiving regular supervision and direction.
* Ability to use routinely available spreadsheet/database software (Excel, Access, etc.).
* Record of having published in peer‑reviewed, academic or professional journals and/or books.
Experience
* Demonstrable relevant work experience or knowledge of working with children, young people or adults with mental health difficulties.
* Relevant work experience with adolescents with mental health problems.
* Desire to progress to Clinical Training (DClinPsy).
* Relevant work experience with young people or adults with eating disorders.
Other Information
Contract: Fixed term, 12 months.
Working pattern: Full‑time, compressed hours.
Location: Birch Centre, St Catherine's Hospital Site.
Salary: £28,392 to £31,157 per annum, pro rata.
