Job Overview
We are looking for a specialty doctor to join the Ophthalmology team in Ysbyty Gwynedd, North Wales for a 12‑month contract, with the possibility of converting to a permanent role.
The department brings together professionals from a wide range of backgrounds in a family‑like environment. Despite being a small district general hospital, it offers a busy and varied workload, peaking in the holiday seasons due to the influx of visitors to the National Park.
The successful candidate must be a team‑player and confident in anaesthetic skills, as they will be a key member of the overnight on‑call team. Living in a rural area requires commitment; we will review the contract after one year to determine if it can become permanent.
Main Duties
The appointee will perform the examination and treatment of patients in the Ophthalmology Department and assist in the Eye Casualty regularly. The working week comprises ten programmed activities, which may be adjusted by discussion and agreement.
* Carry out ophthalmic clinical duties as assigned
* Undertake procedures, lasers, and relevant clinical investigations
* Work a 1 in 4 on‑call rota (currently 5 pm‑10 pm weekdays and 9 am‑10 pm weekends)
* Take part in formal medical audits
The successful candidate will be encouraged and supported to develop a subspecialty interest of their choice.
