Overview
Senior Electrical Engineer position with Environment Agency’s Standards and Engineering team. The role involves knowledge of high, medium, low and extra-low voltage electrical systems and equipment, with beneficial expertise in control systems design and SCADA/telemetry. You will provide technical engineering leadership to the organisation to support safe, reliable and sustainable assets and the drive towards net zero carbon. You will manage, develop and maintain electrical engineering standards, including electrical safety rules, for electrical systems and equipment across assets such as pumping stations, water management and flood defence structures and monitoring sites.
You will help develop, deliver and maintain competency and skills guidance for all employees managing or carrying out work on our electrical systems and equipment. The role may require national incident response, during or outside normal working hours.

Responsibilities
* Develop, deliver and maintain electrical engineering standards, including electrical safety rules, for HV and LV power systems and control systems within assets such as pumping stations, water management and flood defence structures and monitoring sites.
* Provide technical engineering leadership and support to the organisation to meet objectives of safe, reliable and sustainable assets and commitments to net zero carbon.
* Influence how services are delivered by the Standards, Asset Management and Engineering Directorate.
* Develop and maintain competency and skills guidance for employees managing or carrying out work on electrical systems and equipment.
* Hold a national incident response role which may be within normal working hours or out of hours.
* Draft and publish electrical policy, instructions and guidance; apply risk-based approaches to electrical maintenance philosophies and implementation; support Safe Systems of Work and risk assessments.
* Ensure testing and isolation of high and low voltage electrical systems and proving dead where required.
* Contribute to MEICA engineering standards within the MEICA Engineering Standards team.
Experience/Skills Required
* A good working knowledge of the Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
* A good working knowledge of control systems, including IEC 61508, IEC 62061 and BS EN 13489, and telemetry/SCADA systems.
* Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
* Experience in developing and delivering Safe Systems of Work, risk assessments and method statements.
* Experience in testing and isolation of high and low voltage electrical systems.
* Strong understanding of risk-based approaches to electrical maintenance, including Failure Mode Effects Analysis and reliability concepts.
* Drafting and publishing electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
* Excellent work management, teamwork and communication skills.
Role Specifics
* UK Driving licence
* Current membership of a recognised engineering institution and Chartered Engineer status with the UK Engineering Council, or evidence of working toward registration with a realistic prospect within 12 months.

* This is a hybrid role with a base location near your home.
* Some travel and overnight stays may be required; smart tools are used to stay connected.
