Home Office Digital, Data and Technology designs, builds and develops services for the rest of the department and for government. Every year our systems support up to 3 million visa applications, checks on 100 million border crossings, up to 8 million passport applications and deliver 140 million police checks on people, vehicles and property.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the DDaT Enablers Portfolio Office which aims to ensure that business areas can deliver effectively, providing value for money technological solutions. We provide a development and technical delivery function alongside, business and technical governance, and project management activities. We also act as the gateway for other areas of DDaT to access enterprise-wide infrastructure.


Job description


The role of the Senior Project Support Officer covers a diverse range of activities to support the delivery of the project's objectives. This post will support the G7 Project Manager through the operation of project management processes, and coordinating business management actions on their behalf, you will enable the smooth running of the project.

Key responsibilities

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

* Ensuring systems are in place to enable effective planning and scheduling
* Manage project controls, reporting to the Project Manager about the project status, develop project performance reports
* Ensure organisational tasks are carried out efficiently, manage compliance of the project with Departmental Security, Health and Safety, Equality and Diversity, Business Continuity and Business Planning
* Lead a team responsible for identifying, developing and deploying resources
* Manage workforce planning, providing information for effective decision making to the Project Manager, procurement of supplies and services related to project support within Delegated Financial Authority limits
* Manage and engage with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
* Draft and sign-off correspondence, manage project spend and contribute to the compilation of budgets
* Contribute to the project business case, lead potential risk areas, working with risk manager and escalating as appropriate
* Line management of staff may be required

The above responsibilities are not exhaustive, and the post holders may be required to undertake any of the above tasks or additional tasks not listed above, within the remit of their grade, to support the team.

Working pattern

Due to the business requirements of this role, it is only available on a full-time basis.

Travel

Occasional travel to other HO locations may be required.


Person specification


Essential criteria

* Experience of working in a Programme Management Office (PMO), and/or project/programme environment
* Extensive experience of effective planning and scheduling of multiple projects, assisting the team in developing and maintaining project plans including creating quality deliverables, project plans, milestones and dependencies.
* Demonstrable experience of Risk and Issue management including use of Microsoft Project (Online).
* Experience of benefits management including promoting best practices ensuring Benefits Realisation Plans are developed and maintained
* Experience of governance frameworks and methodology gained in complex, fast-paced, challenging environments
* Ability to critically evaluate information gathered across multiple sources, reconcile variances, and recommend improvements/actions
* Experience of managing challenging, complex, and diverse public sector stakeholders, tailoring messages appropriately and demonstrating strong engagement skills to influence others, gain agreement and cooperation
* Close attention to detail, good organisational skills, and an advocate of identifying lessons and sharing best practice.
* An ability to deliver quickly and effectively to tight deadlines

Selection process details

If you successfully pass the Civil Service Numerical and Situational Judgement tests, you will be invited to complete the full application form.
