Job Details
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated clinical academic researcher to establish an independent research programme in Children and Young People’s Brain Tumour Research. The post-holder will have a 50% clinical post with GOSH as detailed in the clinical job plan and will develop collaborations to build molecular pathology research capacity across both institutions. The appointee will support the GOSH neuropathology service and contribute to the surgical pathology and post-mortem responsibilities alongside the other Consultant Neuropathologists at GOSH.
The appointment will be clinician-scientist level with an associated honorary consultant appointment at GOSH. This is a full-time joint academic and NHS consultant post (10 PAs incl. 2 SPAs). The appointee will split time between academic work at ICR (5 PAs) and diagnostic neuropathology work at GOSH (5 PAs).
About You
We aim to recruit an academic neuropathologist with extensive molecular biology research and clinical diagnostic experience to bring cutting-edge molecular analyses to bear on children and young people’s brain tumour classification and biology. Research aims may include refinement of diagnostic classification using novel analytical techniques and/or computational methods, mechanistic understanding of biological drivers of brain tumour subgroups, and use of single-cell developmental atlases to identify lineages of origin for molecularly-defined subtypes. There should be strong integration of morphological, clinical and molecular analyses. You should have clinical and research expertise in paediatric neuropathology demonstrated by specialist clinical experience and publication.
Department/Directorate Information
ICR: Through our Centre for Children and Young People’s Cancer (CCC), we aim to develop outstanding researchers in this area, expanding CNS tumour research in children and young people by leveraging existing expertise and opportunities offered by recent advances in molecular profiling integrated into classification and diagnostics. GOSH: The appointee will support the neuropathology service, contributing to surgical pathology and post-mortem responsibilities alongside other Consultant Neuropathologists at GOSH. The Division of Cancer Biology focuses on molecular alterations in cancer development and treatment response, translating molecular characterisation into personalised cancer strategies. The Division was previously known as the Division of Molecular Pathology and was renamed in February 2025.
