Operational Manager – Discharge Hub and Short Term Services

Job Summary

The operational manager for Discharge Hub and Short Term Services will support the Deputy Community Service Manager and the wider senior management team to achieve excellence in patient care and pathways. This role involves operational and service management, delivery and development for Discharge Hub and Short Term Services and staff groups, developing and implementing business plans, projects and change initiatives, carrying out business performance monitoring, supporting Trustwide Management, and building effective working relationships across acute, community ICB and private sectors.


Key Responsibilities

* Support the Deputy Community Service Manager and senior management team to achieve excellence in patient care and pathways.
* Lead operational and service management, delivery and development for Discharge Hub and Short Term Services and staff group.
* Develop and implement business plans, projects and change initiatives.
* Carry out business performance monitoring and reporting and support Trustwide Management for integrated working and service development.
* Line manage, supervise, and support the named workforce in accordance with relevant policies and best practice.
* Manage budget and physical resources for named services and staffing group.


Essential Qualifications and Training

* Degree or Graduate Diploma as a registered health or social care professional.
* HCPC, NMC or SW (England) registration.
* Evidence of continued professional development.
* Leadership and Management qualification/experience/knowledge (e.g., Chartered Management Institution, Leadership and Management apprenticeship).
* Professional operational service delivery and business management knowledge.
* Proven relevant professional operational service experience working in an acute Trust in an admin or clinical capacity.
* Educated to degree level or equivalent experience/ability/training.


Desirable Qualifications

* Experience working with multiple IT/software applications, including spreadsheets and compiling statistics.
* Project management qualification/knowledge/experience.
* Postgraduate experience or training (willingness to pursue formal qualification).


Essential Knowledge and Experience

* Significant clinical knowledge in own professional and community teams.
* High level understanding of NHS national targets and priorities.
* Specialist knowledge across range of procedures and practices underpinned by theory.
* Ability to lead, plan, and organise complex activities/programmes.
* Negotiation, influencing and persuasive skills to manage conflict in a changing environment.
* Outstanding organisational skills with initiative, autonomous decision-making.
* Leadership in Service Development/Change.
* Proven problem-solving skills.
* Ability to work within multidisciplinary teams with a flexible approach.
* Experience of multi-disciplinary team working across agencies.
* Logical thought process.


Desirable Knowledge and Experience

* Process mapping and project management techniques.
* Incident management.


Specific Essential Skills

* Fast mental agility in a dynamic environment.
* Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
* Advanced supervisory/management experience in healthcare, including rota management, service change, business planning.
* Review and investigate operational incidents, root cause analysis, corrective and preventative actions.
* Develop comprehensive work plans, evaluate options and processes.
* Medium to long term planning, monitoring, delivery and evaluation of strategic projects using project management methodologies.


Employment Details

Band: 7

Salary: £47,810 to £54,710 a year pro rata

Contract: Permanent

Working pattern: Full‑time
