We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified General Practice Accountant to join our independent accounting firm in Colchester.
This role is central to delivering exceptional financial services to a diverse portfolio of clients across various industries. As a General Practice Accountant, you will manage full-cycle accounting functions, including financial reporting, tax compliance, and client advisory services. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, a proactive mindset, and a commitment to excellence in client service.

Responsibilities:
* Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with UK GAAP and IFRS standards.
* Manage end-to-end client accounting cycles, including bookkeeping, reconciliations, and ledger maintenance.
* Prepare and file VAT returns, PAYE, and CT600 tax returns with accuracy and timeliness.
* Deliver precise tax computations and support corporate and personal tax planning initiatives.
* Engage directly with clients to collect financial data, resolve discrepancies, and ensure regulatory compliance.
* Support audit and assurance engagements through internal reviews and coordination with external auditors.
* Assist in preparing management accounts and financial analysis to inform client decision-making.
* Stay current with evolving tax legislation, accounting standards, and compliance requirements.
* Contribute to business development by identifying opportunities for value-added services.
* Mentor junior team members and ensure consistent delivery of high-quality client work.
Requirements
General Practice Accountant
* Qualified ACA or ACCA with proven experience in general practice accounting.
* Circa 3 years of post-qualification experience in a reputable accounting firm.
* In-depth knowledge of UK tax legislation, including VAT, Corporation Tax, and PAYE.
* Proficiency in accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, or equivalent.
* Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and time management.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a client-first approach.
* Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of working independently and collaboratively.
* Commitment to ongoing professional development and learning.
* Willingness to travel to client sites within Sudbury, Suffolk, Colchester and surrounding areas.

Requirements
Full ACCA or ACA qualification. Minimum 3 years of post qualification experience in accounting, audit, or business advisory within a professional services firm or corporate environment. Demonstrated expertise in UK GAAP and IFRS, including complex accounting treatments and financial statement disclosures. Proven track record in team leadership, performance management, and staff development. Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to translate financial data into clear, strategic insights. Advanced proficiency in accounting systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Xero, QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel (including complex formulas and data modelling). Client-focused approach with a history of delivering high-quality work under pressure and tight deadlines. Strong commitment to ethics, continuous learning, and maintaining the highest standards of professional integrity.
