Homer Burgess, part of RSK Group, is a family-run mechanical engineering business offering design, fabrication, installation, repair and maintenance services. We are now hiring for a Mechanical Fitter to join the team in Dumfries, Scotland.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform routine planned and reactive maintenance to ensure machinery runs efficiently
* Diagnose faults and repair or replace defective parts
* Assemble mechanical components and systems
* Align and fit parts in accordance with technical drawings and specifications
* Understand technical drawings and manuals to guide installations and repairs
* Conduct performance tests on machinery
* Inspect components for wear and tear or potential failure
* Operate hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments
* Work with welding, grinding and cutting equipment when needed
* Follow health and safety regulations
* Ensure all work is carried out in a safe and environmentally responsible manner
* Keep records of maintenance and repairs
* Report issues to supervisors or engineers
* Work closely with engineers, electricians and other tradespeople
* Support project teams during machinery upgrades or installations
Person Specification
* Time-served tradesperson, ideally in a plant-based role or able to demonstrate equivalent experience
* Capable of assessing a job and applying experience even if the precise requirements are new
* Strong problem solving and the ability to think on your feet
* Supportive of company policies, including QM and H&S systems
* Supportive of the company values of integrity, fairness and honesty
* Flexible in approach to work
* Able to work well under pressure
