Overview
The School of Chemical Engineering at UNSW has an opportunity for a Research Associate to conduct independent and team-based research in nanomaterials. The position focuses on synthesis, optimisation, characterisation, catalytic analysis, and biological testing of carbon nanomaterials. You will develop scholarly research, contribute to scientific papers, participate in conferences, supervise HDR students, and engage with industry partners.

* Salary, Level A – $113,911 to $121,838 per annum + 17% superannuation

* Fixed‑term contract – 12 months with possibility to extend
* Location: Kensington – Sydney, Australia
Responsibilities
Conduct research in nanomaterials both independently and as part of a team; design and carry out experiments across synthesis, optimisation, characterisation, catalytic analysis, and biological testing; write scientific papers and reports for international journals; supervise HDR students; actively engage with industry partners; report to Associate Professor Sophia Gu.
Qualifications
* PhD in material science and engineering, chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, or nanotechnology‑related area.
* Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentation in the relevant field.
* Previous research experience in synthesis, characterisation, catalysis and/or bio‑applications of carbon nanomaterials.
* Proven commitment to keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
* High‑quality academic research and independent research with limited supervision.
* Teamwork, collaboration across disciplines, and effective relationship building.
* Communication and interaction with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.
* Understanding of UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action and relevant policies and guidelines.
* Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
