Quality Assurance Engineer
Location: Derby
Salary: £35,000 – £40,000 per annum (DOE)
Are you a hands‑on Quality Assurance Engineer who thrives on fault finding, solving problems at source, and driving real improvements on the shop floor? This is an exciting opportunity to play a critical role in protecting product integrity, ensuring compliance, and continuously raising quality standards within a fast‑paced aerospace manufacturing environment.
You’ll be at the heart of operations, working closely with production, engineering, customers, and suppliers — not just reporting issues, but actively investigating, resolving, and preventing them.
Key Responsibilities – Quality Assurance Engineer:
* Champion internal quality procedures and ensure full compliance with regulatory and customer requirements.
* Conduct internal audits to recognised standards (AS9100), driving corrective actions and supporting audit readiness across the business.
* Take a hands‑on approach to fault finding, investigating quality issues on the shop floor and leading root cause analysis activities.
* Lead non‑conformance investigations, implementing effective corrective and preventive actions using structured methodologies such as 8D.
* Manage customer returns and supplier corrective actions, ensuring timely resolution and clear communication with internal stakeholders.
* Oversee calibration of gauges, instruments, and specialist equipment through approved external providers.
* Interpret and apply technical drawings, specifications, and work instructions with precision.
* Create, review, and maintain quality documentation including procedures, work instructions, and technical specifications.
* Work closely with the Quality Leadership team to maintain and improve technical standards.
* Act as a key interface with customers, suppliers, and external auditors during quality investigations and audits.
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives, reducing defects, variation, and waste across manufacturing processes.
* Deliver high‑quality work consistently, meeting deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
Skills & Experience for this Quality Assurance Engineer position:
* Proven background in Quality Assurance or Engineering within a manufacturing environment.
* Aerospace experience is essential.
* Strong hands‑on experience in fault finding, root cause analysis, and issue resolution.
* Solid knowledge of corrective action methodologies (8D preferred).
* Experience conducting internal audits to recognised standards (AS9100 desirable).
* Familiarity with continuous improvement tools and techniques.
* Experience working in high‑precision or regulated manufacturing environments.
* Confident communicator with the ability to manage customer and supplier relationships effectively.
* Able to work independently while collaborating with cross‑functional teams.
Qualifications required for this Quality Assurance Engineer position:
* Degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related discipline
* (ONC, BTEC Level 4, NVQ Level 4 also considered).
* Proficient in MS Office and Quality Management Systems.
Working Hours:
Monday to Friday
Flexible shift patterns available:
07:00 – 16:00 (Mon–Thu), 07:00 – 12:00 (Fri)
OR
08:00 – 17:00 (Mon–Thu), 08:00 – 13:00 (Fri)
