A quick look at the role
The Data Governance Manager is crucial to coordinate, support, and drive the day-to-day data management and data governance processes across Biffa. You will help refine and develop the data governance framework and support the implementation of the structures, processes, roles, and systems required to govern data effectively. You will also guide the business in actively managing their data in line with the data governance framework.
Your core responsibilities
* Ensure the data governance framework is up to date and aligned with the latest business and analytics strategy. Advocate for the principles, structures, artefacts, and processes of the framework; evangelise, coach, guide, and support all levels of the business as appropriate. Design and implement metrics to measure progress.
* Ensure Data Governance team, data owners, data stewards, and Data Governance Board are engaged and effective, including supporting artefacts and processes.
* Ensure Data Objects are mastered and maintained in LeanIX, with data standards documented and implemented across Biffa, including data dictionaries and business glossaries.
* Design and implement the data quality approach, collaborating with data stewards, business, and technical experts to develop future processes. Manage and update the enterprise data issues log to investigate and resolve issues.
* Work with the Head of D&A and BI Teams to ensure information management practices are well designed and effective, aligning with the data governance framework.
* Design, implement, and maintain a Master Data Management approach, collaborating with local business teams and technical units.
* Ensure data is governed, documented, retained, and maintained throughout its lifecycle, with change impacts documented and approved.
* Implement enterprise data governance tools to keep data lineage, definitions, and standards current and accessible.
* Ensure roles impacted by data governance receive appropriate training, communication, and engagement, including providing necessary technical content.
Our essential requirements
* 3–5 years of experience leading a data governance programme or team
* Knowledge of data standards and quality frameworks
* Experience with data lifecycle frameworks aligned to regulation
* Experience with Microsoft Purview
