About the Role:
As a Cost Engineer specialising in water infrastructure projects, you will play a crucial role in delivering accurate and competitive cost estimates for our client's B2B infrastructure estimation services. Based in Glasgow, you will be responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates, analysing project specifications, and collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure that all estimates are completed on time and to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities:
In this role, you will prepare detailed cost estimates for water infrastructure projects, ensuring that all estimates are accurate and comprehensive. You will review and analyse project plans, specifications, and other documentation to understand the scope of work and identify potential cost-saving opportunities. Collaborating with project managers, engineers, and other professionals, you will gather and verify data to ensure that all estimates are based on the most up-to-date information.
You will maintain and update estimating databases and spreadsheets, ensuring that all data is accurate and readily accessible. Preparing and presenting cost reports to internal teams and clients, you will provide valuable insights and recommendations based on your analysis. Additionally, you will assist in the preparation of tender documents and bids, ensuring that all submissions are competitive and compliant with client requirements.
Conducting market research to stay updated on material costs, labour rates, and industry trends, you will ensure that all estimates are based on the most current data. Supporting the estimating team in evaluating and comparing subcontractor and supplier quotations, you will help to identify the most cost-effective solutions. Ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures, and industry standards, you will maintain the highest levels of professionalism and integrity.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, you will need a degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field. With 3-5 years of experience in cost engineering or estimations, you will have a specific focus on water infrastructure projects. Strong numerical and analytical skills are essential, as is proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. Familiarity with estimating software (e.g., Benchmark Estimating Software, CostX, or similar) is a plus.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are crucial, as you will be working closely with colleagues and clients to deliver exceptional results. Strong attention to detail and accuracy are essential, as is the ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines. You should be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team, and be able to manage your time effectively to meet project deadlines.
