Job Title: HLTA / Higher Level Teaching Assistant – SEND

TeacherActive is proud to partner with a specialist SEND provision in South Gloucestershire, supporting children and young people with severe and complex needs, including SLD, PMLD and Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).
This is a hands-on role in a setting where every pupil requires a high level of individual support. Many pupils are non-verbal or have limited communication and rely on visual aids, communication tools, and sensory-based approaches to engage with learning. You will play a key role in helping pupils access the curriculum in a way that works for them.
As an HLTA, you will lead small group activities and support across the classroom, adapting learning to suit a wide range of needs. You will also support pupils with emotional regulation, physical needs, and engagement, helping to create a calm and structured learning environment.
This role can be challenging at times, but it is equally rewarding. You will be part of a close-knit team that works together to support pupils’ progress, no matter how small, and to build their confidence and independence over time.
The Role:
Supporting the delivery of adapted lessons across all key stages
Leading small group work and targeted interventions
Supporting communication, sensory engagement, and physical needs
Encouraging independence and positive behaviours
The Successful HLTA Will Have:
HLTA qualification or strong experience in a higher-level support role
Experience working with complex SEND, including SLD, PMLD, and ASD
A calm, consistent, and adaptable approach
Confidence supporting non-verbal pupils or those with communication needs
A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
