Job Overview
Fire Engineer at Thetford (Permanent). Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday (Days). Salary: Up to £65,000 PA.
Responsibilities
* Identifying design fire‑related risks and reducing or eliminating them.
* Production of designs, calculations, sketches and/or diagrams to help prevent fire or fire spread, including production of fire strategy reports across all RIBA work stages.
* Advising the wider design team on integration of fire safety requirements into designs, including advice that informs decisions on safe building occupancy levels, fire evacuation plans etc.
* Undertaking risk and opportunity reviews of employer’s requirements information at preconstruction stage relating to fire safety and fire design, such as fire suppression systems, risk assessments, reviewing plans and layouts to verify if appropriate consideration has been given to fire safety.
* Undertaking site visits and technical inspections to verify and validate the installation or implementation of the design outputs relating to fire safety.
* Liaising with local authorities, fire authorities, insurers and building control professionals to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
* Fire modelling experience will be beneficial. Whilst it is not intended for the role to involve full computational modelling and fluid dynamics, a working knowledge of the calculation process is essential, to define performance requirements to be implemented through design work by others.
* Be a role model to all staff in terms of character and work ethic to ensure acceptable working practices and procedures.
Key Skills
* Recognised fire safety and engineering guidance and Codes of Practice, e.g. BB100, BR187, BS 8629, BS 9990, BS 5839, PAS 8671 (Flex), BS 8579, Building Regulations Approved Document Part B, BS 9999 and similar.
* Knowledge of recognised fire engineering CFD (fire & smoke modelling) and CEM (evacuation modelling).
Experience
* Minimum 5 years post graduate experience in the UK working across a wide range of construction sectors.
* Fire engineering degree, or alternatively a post graduate qualification in fire engineering.
* Registered fire risk assessor within a recognised professional body.
