Commercial Manager/Lead - Specialist Civils Division

£130,000 - £150,000 + package

London (Zone 2) | £30m Business Unit | No.1 Commercial Role

Are you an experienced Commercial Manager ready to take full ownership of a growing business unit and play a key role in its future success? This is a rare opportunity to join a leading £200m construction group as the No.1 Commercial lead for a specialist civil engineering division generating £30m in annual turnover. With a strong pipeline of secured work, an established reputation in the market, and ambitious plans for growth, the business is seeking a commercially astute leader who can drive performance, influence strategy, and help shape the division's next phase of expansion. This isn't simply another Commercial Manager position. It's an opportunity to become a key member of the senior leadership team and directly influence the future direction of a growing and profitable business.

The opportunity

Reporting directly to the Divisional Managing Director, you will lead all commercial operations across a portfolio of specialist civil engineering projects, ensuring strong financial performance while supporting the division's long-term growth strategy. You will have genuine autonomy, strategic input, and the opportunity to build and develop a high‑performing commercial team.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead all commercial activities across the division's project portfolio
  • Drive profitability through effective cost management, forecasting and commercial controls
  • Oversee procurement, subcontract management, contract administration and risk management
  • Work closely with operational teams to maximise project performance and margin
  • Lead, mentor and develop the commercial team
  • Support strategic planning and business growth alongside the Divisional Managing Director
  • Build strong relationships with clients, supply chain partners and key stakeholders
  • Ensure robust commercial governance across all projects

About you

  • Proven experience as a Commercial Manager within civil engineering, infrastructure or specialist contracting
  • Strong leadership skills with a track record of managing and developing commercial teams
  • Excellent commercial acumen and ability to drive business performance
  • Strong knowledge of NEC contracts and commercial management best practice
  • Confident operating at senior management level and influencing key stakeholders
  • Ambitious, driven and motivated by the opportunity to make a significant impact
