Part of a major international group, this organisation is continuing to invest millions in new manufacturing facilities and CapEx to produce complex high-value components for the automotive industry. Due to continued expansion, a Tooling Project Engineer is urgently sought to support current production and future new product introduction.
Tooling Engineer
Location: Shropshire (commutable from Telford, Shrewsbury, North Birmingham, Kidderminster, Bridgnorth, Cannock, Wolverhampton, Walsall, Dudley, Stafford areas)
Salary: c£50,000 + benefits
The role:
As a Tooling Project Engineer, you will be responsible for managing the design of new tooling through optimisation, build, and buy-off processes to ensure successful introduction into production. You will be involved in all aspects of tooling from initial product design, tool optimisation, validation, and simulation to vendor project management and tooling buy-off.
* Review and validate designs, including high-pressure die casting tools, trim/clip tools, spray heads, robot end effectors, jigs, and fixtures against specifications and RFQ.
* Manage tooling vendors and suppliers, potentially involving overseas travel.
* Produce 2D CAD drawings for products, tooling, fixtures, and equipment to support manufacturing, quality, and engineering activities.
* Conduct feasibility reviews and apply design for manufacture (DFM) principles to evaluate product designs and produce summary reports.
* Understand component tolerances, dimensional capability statistics, and GD&T.
Experience:
You should have significant experience as a Tooling Engineer or Tool Design Engineer, including design and project management, with experience in some of the following areas:
* Proficient in 2D/3D CAD software for design interrogation and optimisation.
* Expertise in tooling such as die casting, stamping, or plastic injection moulding.
* Knowledge of robot end effectors, jigs, fixtures, runner, and cooling design (beneficial).
* Experience with MAGMASOFT simulation software (desirable).
* Strong project management, vendor management, and communication skills to build effective relationships with customers.
