Overview
The Vacancy WRc are recruiting for a Lead Test Engineer to join their team in Swindon (SN5 8YF).
This is a full time role, and you will work closely with a range of technical specialists in WRc’s Engineering Directorate to understand their needs for testing to both existing Industry, British or International Standards. You will play a central role in the technical delivery of a wide variety of projects centred around the testing of technologies used in the water sector. It is a highly varied role with projects covering practical testing, evaluation and research. Our test work includes tests to specific water industry, British and International standards and bespoke testing to address specific client requirements. Testing will mainly be based at our facilities in Swindon but occasional site work at client sites may be required.
Responsibilities
* Designing test rigs and procedures
* Leading and directing the testing aspects within projects
* Communicating with clients to understand their needs and translate these into work proposals
* Early input into client proposals prepared by others which include elements of testing to identify resource needs, costs etc.
* Line management of our team of technicians
* Supporting our growing testing capability across the Engineering Directorate
* Analysis and reporting of test data
* Providing technical and, where necessary hands-on, support to the team of test technicians
* Identifying and recommending improvements to existing facilities to meet changing market needs
* Providing design support to upgrades on existing facilities
Person Specification
* Degree in a STEM discipline, preferably in engineering or applied physics (or working towards such a degree)
* Experience in a testing environment
* Good understanding of H&S requirements for laboratory / test environments
* Understanding of the importance of equipment calibration
* Ability to define problems, collect and interpret data
* Competent in Microsoft Office applications – Excel, Word
* A “How can we….” attitude
