Brief Description
You'll help keep our nation moving every single day. A critical part of the work we do is the daily upkeep of the rail network. As a technician you'll work outdoors in a team, supporting essential maintenance to keep the railway running safely and smoothly for passengers and freight users. We provide training to develop both technical and non-technical skills.
Responsibilities
* Work outdoors in all conditions, maintaining electrified rail systems as part of Distribution & Plant to keep power flowing safely and efficiently.
* Collaborate with team and team leader to deliver work safely and meet safety standards; lead the team when asked and ensure the team has the right competencies.
* Lead, motivate and direct a team for safe and efficient work delivery; act as a role model for safe working behaviours and challenge risks to safety as needed.
* Assess and implement safe systems of work; communicate effectively with colleagues and provide clear instructions.
* Persistently solve problems, developing skills and keeping up to date with standards, procedures and instructions.
* Demonstrate willingness to learn and participate in structured training to move into a rewarding career in rail.
Qualifications
* Transferable skills and behaviours; no necessarily prior rail experience required
* Relevant qualification: NVQ Level 1 or 2 in the discipline or equivalent experience
* Leadership capability and effective communication skills
* Safe working practices and ability to implement safe systems of work
* Willingness to learn and develop technical and non-technical skills
Requirements & Working Conditions
* Shifts include days, nights and weekends
* Outdoor working in all weathers
* Subject to drug and alcohol testing and medical/BPSS checks; hearing and eyesight examinations may be required
* Driving licence (category B) and ability to drive Network Rail vehicles
* Be within a 60-minute commute of the location
Salary
£43,997 per annum
