Job Purpose: To support a young woman with a learning disability to access social activities and continue developing her independence skills.
Location: Horstead, NR12.
Details: S is an active 28-year-old lady with a good sense of humour, who enjoys activities typical of those in her age group such as swimming, eating out, music, and dance. S has learning difficulties associated with Down’s Syndrome and lives in an independent living setting within the family home.
Your role will be to support S to access meaningful employment/volunteering opportunities and social activities outside of her home, and to provide overnight support to S for respite.
* Supporting S to access meaningful volunteering/employment opportunities for her to develop her employability and work experience.
* Carer capable of ensuring clear behavioral boundaries with S, before establishing a friendship.
* Supporting S to identify and access social activities and events of interest, including socialising with friends, in a safe and structured environment.
* Supporting S to develop independence skills such as cooking and domestic chores.
* Ensuring S’s safety in the community and at home, including road safety, handling money, and using appliances.
* Prompting S with personal care tasks.
* Providing overnight support, assisting with bedtime, morning routines, and during the night if needed, usually undisturbed.
* Supporting general home activities like feeding the dogs and garden tasks.
* Any other reasonable duties as required.
Person specification
Essential skills, competencies, and qualities include:
* Car owner/driver with appropriate insurance.
* Must be female due to personal care responsibilities.
* Ability to support S’s independence development.
* Interest in activities suitable for a 28-year-old woman.
* Comfort working around dogs and cats.
Summary terms and conditions
* Pay rate: £15/hr and £55 per sleep-in night (10pm-8am).
* Reimbursement for expenses, including mileage at 45p/mile.
* Hours: Minimum 4 hours on Tuesdays, with additional days and overnights available.
* Holiday entitlement: equivalent to 5.6 weeks of work.
Post conditions:
* Satisfactory enhanced DBS check (cost covered by employer).
* Satisfactory references from two referees, including current or last employer.
* 6-month probationary period.
