Governor Services Lead
N9 (£46,142 per annum to SCP38 - £49,282 per annum)
37 hours per week, permanent and full time (but flexible working requests will be considered, including term‑time only working).
We are looking to recruit a Governor Services Lead to create, organise and deliver training for board members; provide advice and support to board members and school leaders and manage our team of Clerks to Governing Bodies. The appointed person will also clerk meetings if needed. The team operate as part of the School Effectiveness team within the Educational Development and Inclusion team in the City.

The job
This is an exciting opportunity to work with a range of schools in the City and beyond helping governors, board members and school leaders ensure our children and young people get the best education possible.
High quality and professional training and clerking are essential for the effective functioning of a board. Great training and advice helps board members in their important role holding school/academy leaders to account and providing support. Clerks provide organisational and administrative support to their boards and help board members understand their role, functions and responsibilities.
The person appointed will create and deliver training and manage and develop a team of clerks who provide support to governors and school/academy leaders by giving procedural advice; preparing agendas and sending papers; taking minutes of meetings and keeping records of membership. The Governor Services Lead will also have a small caseload of schools of their own.
The person appointed will have excellent organisational, managerial and people skills, the ability to communicate effectively and have a high standard of written English.
The role involves:
* Creating and delivering a training programme which meets the needs of governing boards
* Providing advice and support (procedural, legal and general) to board members and school leaders
* Managing contracts with schools and over‑seeing the service budget
* Managing a team, supporting them to do their job effectively
* Co‑ordinating the workload of the team to ensure all scheduled meetings are clerked
* Having a small caseload of schools as a clerk; preparing agendas and papers, minuting meetings and producing minutes
* The job will involve evening working and travel to schools.
The role is full time but flexible working patterns will be considered. Knowledge of the school sector and governance is desirable along with experience of delivering training but support will be available to the appointed person.
