We’re looking for a collaborative composer/sound designer with good technical knowledge especially of Qlab to create a soundscape for Whistle Stop. There may be moments of found sound (stations, trains, clockwork/clocks), interpolation of existing instrumental music and moments of original composition, all to be discussed with the designer once identified.
Fee: £3693 design and composition fee. Based on the ITC/Equity contract including attendance during preview weeks
You will be joining an established director/designer team Rebecca Manson Jones and Jens Demant Cole, with a movement director who has previously worked in performance roles with us. You will be supported by our regular Production Manager, Crin Claxton, and Technical Stage Manager, T Harris.
We use some existing handheld percussive instruments with the audience, and a loop pedal. The cast and wider company may be able to provide some vocal elements, but the show is mostly non-verbal. There may be some cultural references to reflect the multicultural nature of the audiences, our inclusive aesthetic and the specificity of some sequences. Knowledge and confidence with a range of musical traditions is helpful. Train geekery is a bonus. Ability to meet deadlines, collaborate in rehearsals, work within a restricted budget and tech spec are all essential.
Dates: end of March 2026 – July 2026 (see job pack for availability requirements)
Deadline to apply is Friday 27th March at 10am but we will meet people as applications come in, so send us your application asap (rather than working to get it perfect!).
