Offer description

Overview

It’s a fantastic time to work for the Environment Agency as we step forward to tackle the climate emergency. Do you want to help make England a better place to live and work in?

As a member of the Flood & Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) Improvements Portfolio team, you will support the Portfolio Management Office and sub-portfolio project and programme work delivering over £150m of improvements in the next three years. You’ll help inform changes we are delivering to enable outcomes that protect communities and businesses from the devastating impacts of flooding. The Improvements Portfolio is a professional portfolio, programme and project management service in the FCRM directorate, driving innovation and continuous improvements across FCRM and Incident Management, and supporting the delivery of corporate and FCRM strategies and plans.

This role is not eligible for Skilled visa sponsorship. Responding to incidents is a central and important part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role (usually virtual) and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and will include full training. Alternative working arrangements and full support will be available to enable you in your incident role.

Responsibilities

* Start up and inform new projects, help assure live projects, support project managers, build relationships with the Portfolio Management Office and help improve and embed Portfolio management and data practices.
* Help inform and deliver portfolio, programme and project management services across the FCRM directorate and contribute to national and area team work.
* Support innovative improvement projects contributing to the success of the National Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Strategy, Asset Management Strategy and Mapping, Modelling and Data Plans.
* Provide data analytics and/or project management support at programme/portfolio level.

Experience / Skills Required

* Formal project / programme management experience is essential.
* Highly numerate with good data gathering, manipulation and interpretation skills; able to deal with large datasets and multiple users. Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel required; experience of Power BI / Tableau (or similar) is desirable.
* Experience in a project support role in a complex organisation using Agile and Waterfall methodologies.
* Administrative and organisational skills, supporting regular meetings, agendas and minutes for Portfolio governance cycles.
* Financial data management and project planning skills desirable.
* Ability to gain credibility and collaboration across the business through appropriate behaviours.
* Experience in tackling and automating routine issues with a continuous improvement mindset.
* Ability to work with uncertainty and find innovative solutions to problems.
